Kenton County is the second-largest county in NKY and borders Cincinnati directly across the river. Two county clerk offices (Covington and Independence), multiple UPS Stores, banks, and three library branches give you more notary options here than anywhere else in Northern Kentucky.
Kenton County is one of the few NKY counties with two fully-staffed clerk offices. Use Independence if you're coming from the south — it's consistently less busy than Covington.

If you're only getting something notarized (not doing a title transfer), go early or try the Independence branch. The notary window is separate from the title desk — ask specifically for notary service when you arrive and you may get processed faster.

ⓘ Erlanger sits on the Boone/Kenton county line and is equally convenient for residents of either county. Longer hours and Sunday availability make it the most flexible walk-in option in the area.

For the absolute lowest cost and fastest in-and-out experience on a weekday, try the Kenton County Clerk at 1840 Simon Kenton Way — $2 per signature, no appointment, walk-in. If it's after 4pm or a weekend, the UPS Store on W Pike St is your best bet in Covington proper (closed Sundays — use Erlanger for Sunday). Banks are free but require you to be an account holder.
Independence is consistently less busy for walk-in notary service. The Covington office handles a very high volume of vehicle title transfers, which can create long waits even when you're only there for a quick notarization. If you live anywhere south of Erlanger or east toward Taylor Mill, Independence is both faster and more convenient.
Chase Bank in Edgewood (3600 Dixie Hwy) offers free notary service for account holders Monday–Friday. Stock Yards Bank in Ft. Mitchell is another option for account holders. For a non-bank option, the UPS Store in Erlanger is the closest walk-in location — about 5–10 minutes from either city. The Kenton County Clerk in Covington is approximately 10 minutes from Edgewood.
The UPS Store in Erlanger (3753 Turkeyfoot Rd) is open Sundays 11am–4pm and is the only reliable walk-in Sunday notary option in the Kenton County area. The Covington UPS Store is closed Sundays. All banks, the county clerk, and libraries are closed on Sundays. Mobile notaries are available Sunday with advance notice — expect an additional $25–$50 premium.
The clerk notarizes most standard documents — vehicle bills of sale, affidavits, powers of attorney, consent letters, and similar personal documents. They will not notarize documents where they have a personal stake or conflict of interest. They do not provide legal advice on document content — they only verify your identity and witness your signature. The fee is $2 per signature, the Kentucky statutory maximum.
